This section of the website focuses on the photography aspects of different subjects I am interested in such as bird photography, landscape photography, etc. I also am building out a gallery section for various types of photography in the Photography Collections.
So everyone has cameras on their phones and so there is hardly anything going on that is not getting photographed. But as the years stretch on and you look back, did that photograph capture what you wanted to remember? It’s true, the phone camera is getting some pretty good capabilities and since it is always with us, we can record things that would have been missed. Unfortunately those shots often make me feel – well that I wish I had my camera. The ability to change lenses and control the settings of modern cameras is substantially greater than what the phone camera can offer. But even still, carrying a camera is not enough.
But what about intentional photography – photography that is created and made better by doing as much as possible that the photograph will be successful. It may still be surprising but the photographer has evaluated the light and background, brought the right lens and filters, and has a camera and settings available to take amazing images. Intentional photography is prepared photography. There are many resources that are available today to help us develop our intentional photography and I plan to point to the ones I have been using as well as the numerous internet and written resources that I have found useful.
- I see some have used the term related to intentionally camera movement during long exposures to ‘paint’ by exposure. I am not going to use the term in that fashion!
That is the where I find myself in, to go from ad hoc to intentional. To be prepared to take photographs that are memorable and document times that should be remembered.
