One of the things I like to look for when deciding what I want to do for photography is to check out the wind. If there is a good chance for a nice sunrise with little to no wind, it is a great chance to get some good reflection shots of birds and landscapes - if you can beat the power boats to the lake!
There is nothing like time in the field to provide opportunities for photography. Obviously we can maximize the chances of good photos by picking great places (apps like Photocells and TPE are awesome along with websites like ClearOutside). But you have to get out there.
